Chief Zbikowski is a 38 year fire service veteran serving 21 years as Chief of the Ashburnham Fire Department. The Chief obtained over $3.5M in grants and donations for the Town of Ashburnham and brought the department ambulance service to the Paramedic level. Coming to Berlin on February 1, 2016 the Chief has led the transformation of the new Berlin Fire & EMS Department. He is working to develop a succession plan, equipment consolidation plan and a new staffing plan for the department.
Chief Zbikowski has an Associate Degree in Fire Science, a Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Business Administration. The Chief is a Credentialed Chief Officer and holds National Certifications as a Fire Officer, Fire Inspector and Fire Instructor. He is member of the Fire Science Advisory Board and Adjunct faculty at Mount Wachusett Community College. He is a Past President of the Fire Chief’s Association of Massachusetts, served as Chairman of the Massachusetts Residential Fire Sprinkler Coalition and also served as Chairman/Member of Legislative Committee for Fire Chief’s Association of Massachusetts for 9 years. He was a guest speaker at the International Conference Fire & Rescue Executives.
The Chief has represented the International Association of Fire Chief’s on two People-to-People Ambassadors Missions of Understanding with foreign Fire Services to China and South Africa. Chief Zbikowski is a recipient of the Department of Defense Seven Seals Award and he is a four time recipient of the President of the United States Volunteer Service Award. He is State Vice Chair for ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves). He is also the Secretary/Treasurer for Massachusetts Fire District 8. The Chief is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He and his wife of 34 years, Marie have 4 children and 1 granddaughter.
